BREAKING: A Qatari gas carrier was struck in the Gulf on Friday evening, Qatar's state news agency reports.

The LNG carrier Al Mayeda, owned by Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat), was hit by unidentified objects while transiting Gulf waters on October 30. No crew were injured, there was no environmental impact, and Nakilat says the vessel is safe and still operating while the damage is assessed.

Qatar is one of the world's largest LNG exporters, so an attack on one of its carriers, even one that caused no injuries, lands differently than a generic shipping incident. It follows a string of limpet-mine attacks on tankers near the Strait of Hormuz reported earlier this week, and it comes days before a possible new round of US strikes on Iran that Washington has warned Gulf allies about.

For now, no one has claimed responsibility, and Qatar has not named an attacker. The question for Monday is whether insurers and shippers treat this as a one-off, or as the start of a pattern that reprices Gulf shipping.
