Turkiye's under-15 social media ban is now in force.
From today, November 1, platforms in Turkiye may not open new accounts for children under 15. Teenagers aged 15 to 17 can use social media only with limited services after verifying their age through the state's e-Devlet gateway.
Existing accounts get a transition period until March 31, 2027, to complete age verification. Platforms that do not comply face fines, advertising bans and bandwidth throttling.
The government warns that age checks happen only through turkiye.gov.tr and the official e-Devlet app. Any message, email or post telling you to verify immediately elsewhere, or threatening to close your account, is a scam.
Why it matters: Turkiye has just drawn one of the sharpest lines in the world between children and social media, and the next five months will show whether platforms can actually enforce it.
