In 2025, 1.3 million tonnes of Kazakh oil travelled to the Mediterranean through Azerbaijan.

Crude from the Tengiz and Kashagan fields is shipped by tanker from Aktau, Kazakhstan across the Caspian Sea, then enters the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and runs to the Turkish port of Ceyhan. The whole route takes about seven days, according to experts cited by Kazinform.

Kazakhstan plans to raise volumes on the route to 7 million tonnes a year by 2027. For both countries, the corridor is about more than barrels: it is a way for Kazakh oil to reach world markets without relying on a single transit route.
