BREAKING: A fairy chimney collapsed at the entrance of the Göreme Open-Air Museum in Cappadocia, Türkiye, killing three people and injuring five.

The collapse happened on October 29, after heavy rain loosened the soft volcanic rock, and footage of the moment the rock mass broke away has now circulated widely.

The victims were Turkish journalist Fatih Eray Tuna, 31, his wife Begüm Tuna, and 37-year-old French tourist Cynthia Houpert. The couple had married in July and were on holiday in the region.

Prosecutors in Nevşehir have opened an investigation into the cause and whether safety rules were followed. The site is one of Türkiye's busiest tourist draws, and the tragedy has raised fresh questions about visitor safety around the fragile rock formations after heavy rain.
