France's third weekend of youth-led protests ended in clashes across the country, with 159 police officers and 60 protesters injured, four of them seriously, according to figures cited by Le Figaro from the Interior Ministry and emergency services.
About 320,000 people marched nationwide, including 70,000 in Paris, in protests that began with high school students angry about school conditions and living costs and have grown into a broader movement over public services.
Police detained 779 people over the weekend. In Paris, officers were hit with Molotov cocktails, and the Interior Minister condemned what he called an extraordinary level of violence from some groups at the end of otherwise largely peaceful marches.
