Qatar's state shipping company has confirmed that its LNG carrier Al Mayeda was struck by unidentified objects in the Gulf on Friday, October 30.

Operator Nakilat said no crew members were injured and there was no environmental damage. The vessel, which was heading to Pakistan, was hit about 40 nautical miles south of Iran's Lavan Island, according to maritime analysts, and turned back before going dark.

Nobody has claimed the attack. It is the second confirmed strike on Gulf shipping in three days, after tankers were hit by mines and limpet devices in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

For Qatar, one of the world's largest LNG exporters, the message is direct: even its gas carriers are now targets in a waterway the whole region depends on.
