Kyrgyzstan's Emergency Situations Ministry says protective work has secured 4,320 homes and 1,849 hectares of farmland against mudflows and floods.

Deputy Minister Nurbek Jumaliev told a ministry board meeting on October 30 that the measures covered homes under threat across the country, according to AKIpress. The ministry has also identified 11,388 sites prone to natural hazards.

In a mountainous country where spring melts and heavy rains regularly send mud and water through villages, this kind of preparation is the difference between a scare and a disaster.
