Andrey Shutov of Barys Astana has been named the best goalkeeper in the Kontinental Hockey League for October, the first time in his career he has won the monthly award.
The Kazakhstan international played seven games in October, won five of them, and stopped 94.57% of the shots he faced, according to Kazinform. He kept two clean sheets along the way.
Shutov is only the second Barys goalkeeper ever to win the award. The first was Henrik Karlsson, back in December 2018. For a club that carries Kazakhstan's flag in a league dominated by Russian teams, a monthly award for its goalkeeper is a small but real marker of standing.
