Kazakhstan's new entry authorization for visa-free visitors is now rolling out
Kazakhstan has begun phasing in QazETA, its new electronic travel authorization for foreign visitors who enter without a visa. The rollout started on November 1 at Aktau International Airport and four road border crossings, and reaches Astana and Almaty airports on January 1, 2027.
The authorization is free, must be requested at least 72 hours before entry through the QazETA platform, and is valid for 180 days. It applies to nationals of 85 visa-free countries.
Until June 30, 2027, getting the authorization is recommended but not mandatory, and no one will be turned away just for lacking one. From July 1, 2027, it becomes a formal entry requirement, and lacking it can be grounds for refusal.
For travellers, the practical point is simple: visa-free does not mean paperwork-free anymore. Apply early, even during the voluntary phase, because the system and the 72-hour rule will already be enforced in practice at the first crossings.
