Economic Cooperation Organization to draw up transport action plans to 2035
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) will develop short, medium and long term action plans to carry out its Sustainable and Resilient Transport Strategy for 2026 to 2035, Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan told Trend News Agency.
The organization also plans its first international financing conference for transport corridors in 2027, bringing development banks and investors together.
The ECO brings together 10 countries across Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Iran, Turkiye, Pakistan and Afghanistan. For the Turkic members, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Turkiye, the plans matter because they decide which corridors get funded, and that decides whose roads, railways and ports carry the region's trade.
