Almaty power grid crews get smart helmets with cameras
Field crews of Alatau Zharyk Company, the power grid operator in Almaty city and Almaty region in Kazakhstan, have been equipped with smart helmets carrying action cameras. Since the pilot began in 2024, the number of cameras in use has reached 268.
The cameras let managers, dispatchers and safety specialists watch compliance with safety rules in real time while crews work on the grid.
It is a small story with a practical point: Kazakhstan's grid crews work on high-voltage lines in harsh conditions, and a camera on a helmet is cheaper than an accident investigation.
