Telegram overtakes television as Uzbekistan's main source of news
Telegram has overtaken television as the main source of news in Uzbekistan, according to a survey cited by Uzbek sociologists. 51.6 percent of respondents get their news from Telegram, against 44.6 percent from television and 41.6 percent from social media.
The generation gap is sharp: among 18 to 24 year olds, 66.2 percent choose Telegram and only 23.1 percent choose television. Among people over 55, the picture flips, with 77.4 percent preferring television.
For a country where television was long the default, the shift says as much about trust and habit as about technology: young Uzbeks now get their news where they chat.
