Andrea Kimi Antonelli becomes Formula 1's youngest ever world champion
Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli has become Formula 1's youngest ever world champion at 20 years and 68 days, after finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen won the red-flagged, restarted race, with Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton second. Antonelli, who needed only a ninth-place finish to seal the title, now leads by an unassailable 119 points with four races left.
He is the first Italian champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953, beating Sebastian Vettel's previous youngest-champion record by more than three years. In his second season, Antonelli already has nine wins and 16 podiums.
