Fire breaks out at a construction site in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
A fire broke out at a building under construction in the Almazar district of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Monday morning, sending a thick column of black smoke over the neighbourhood. Footage from Karasaray street shows flames and smoke rising from the site, with tower cranes visible through the haze.
Local channels report the blaze at a new residential block near a fitness club. No information on casualties or the cause of the fire had been released at the time of the reports. Emergency services were at the scene.
Construction site fires have become a recurring Tashkent story this year, and each one raises the same question about fire safety on the city's fast-growing building sites.
