Kazakhstan plans to invest about 6.5 trillion tenge, roughly 14.3 billion dollars, from its National Fund into modernising infrastructure by the end of 2029, Trend News Agency reports. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has framed the push as turning the country into "one big construction site".

The programme, dubbed "People's Construction", is meant to upgrade social facilities, utilities, housing and transport infrastructure across all regions. It is one of the largest state-directed spending drives in Kazakhstan's recent history, and it comes as Astana tries to close a long infrastructure gap between its big cities and its regions.

The question now is delivery. Kazakhstan has announced big infrastructure programmes before, and the test will be whether the money reaches finished roads, pipes and clinics on time, rather than stalling in tenders and delays.
