Kazakhstan busts online drug-store cash network in Aktobe, Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan's Financial Monitoring Agency has broken up a criminal group that serviced an online drug store, Kazinform reports. A resident of Aktobe, in western Kazakhstan, built a social media exchange group and recruited seven accomplices, running round-the-clock shifts.
Between 50 and 70 payments a day passed through 22 bank cards belonging to money mules, after which buyers received the coordinates of hidden drug stashes. The proceeds were converted into cryptocurrency.
The case shows how Kazakhstan's drug trade has moved onto the same rails as ordinary online commerce: social media storefronts, dropper cards and crypto cash-outs. The agency's answer is to follow the money, not just the drugs.
