Uzbekistan to launch an online mahalla platform for citizens working abroad
Uzbekistan will launch an "Online Mahalla" platform to help citizens working abroad, Uztube reports. Through it, labour migrants will be able to contact diplomats if they run into problems outside the country. The system is to be introduced within 10 days.
The mahalla, the neighbourhood community, is Uzbekistan's basic unit of social organisation, and putting it online for migrants is a logical step. For workers far from home, a direct line to their embassy through a familiar institution could matter more than any new hotline.
