BREAKING: Moscow has answered Kazakhstan's proposal to bring Russia into the Turkic world's main bloc.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia has not yet received an official invitation, but considers participation in the Organization of Turkic States expedient, according to APA.
The proposal came from Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who suggested Russia join the OTS as a member or observer, in a new OTS+ format.
Why it matters: the OTS has always been a Turkic-only club. Adding Russia, the region's former imperial power and still its biggest neighbor, would change what the organization is. Moscow saying yes in principle, before any invitation even arrives, tells you how seriously it takes not being left outside the Turkic table.
