Why are countdown timers disappearing from traffic lights in Almaty, Kazakhstan?
Drivers noticed timers vanishing at the Satpayev-Auezov intersection and elsewhere. The city administration told ZHEST_KZ the reason is technical: road controllers are being replaced so lights can be managed in real time, adjusting to actual traffic instead of fixed timers.
Less countdown, more adaptive lights. Drivers will have to get used to lights that change on the city's timing, not theirs.
