Former director Fizuli Mammadov of Regional Forest Management Center No. 7 and forester Vidadi Asgarov are accused of taking bribes linked to leasing plots in forest territory, APA reports. A court ordered Mammadov into custody and Asgarov under house arrest.
Forest land in Azerbaijan is state land, and leases for it are a classic corruption pressure point. This time the case reached a courtroom.
