Azerbaijan's AZCON Holding and Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna sovereign fund agreed strategic cooperation on a new Trans-Caspian ferry system, the Caspian Bridge, running modern high-capacity ferries between Alat and Kuryk, APA and Trend report. Azerbaijan Railways and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy also signed terms for an intermodal cargo terminal at Baku port, with a joint venture to run it.
Why it matters: the Middle Corridor is the route that lets cargo move between China and Europe without Russia. Every ferry, terminal and joint venture on the Caspian makes that route faster, cheaper and harder to bypass.
