Kazakhstan has eased its watch over mobile money transfers, raising the bar before banks pass account data to the tax authorities.
The tax office will now look at an account only when three conditions meet at once: money arrives from 100 or more different people, for three months in a row, totalling more than 1,557,000 tenge (360 monthly calculation indices).
The old limit was 1,020,000 tenge, and the low bar meant ordinary transfers between people often drew suspicion. The change matters for anyone who collects money from large groups, from event organisers to small traders.
