Residents near Almaty, Kazakhstan, paid for their own road, then watched contractors dig it up and walk away.
People in the new settlement of Kemertogan, in the Karasai district of Almaty region, pooled their own money to build a road. In August, contractors laying a water pipeline dug it up without warning residents first, one resident said in a Threads post.
The village already has clean water from a private supplier, she said, but the road and the money collected for it are gone. The local administration told her road restoration is the contractor's job, and the contractor has not fixed it.
