At the start of this year, AI was not as smart as the smartest scientists, Altman said. Now, he argued, it is smarter than most of them, and it can do most white-collar work it could not do before.
Altman added that even though AI looks set to disrupt the economy severely, and people are nervous about it, he believes the transition can be managed and jobs will be reorganised around it.
