A Moscow court has sentenced the founder of The Insider, Roman Dobrokhotov, to five and a half years in prison in absentia, Ateo Breaking reported.

The Cheryomushki district court found the journalist guilty of organising the work of an "undesirable" organisation. The case rested on two YouTube videos, about GRU officers and an investigation into the murder of Alexei Navalny.

Dobrokhotov is outside Russia, so the sentence is symbolic in practical terms, but it adds to the list of Russian journalists punished in absentia for investigations that embarrassed the state.
