President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ordered officials to negotiate pension agreements with Russia, Germany and Japan, so Uzbek citizens' work and pension contributions abroad count when they return home.
Officials were also told to pursue deals with South Korea, the Baltic states and the Balkan countries, Kun.uz reported.
Millions of Uzbeks work abroad, and today years spent on foreign building sites or in foreign factories can vanish from their pension record. A recognition agreement would turn that lost time into retirement income.
