A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Sumbas district in Osmaniye province, Türkiye, at 20:58 local time, at a depth of 7 kilometres, according to the country's disaster agency AFAD.

No damage or casualties have been reported so far. Osmaniye sits in southern Türkiye, a region that knows earthquakes well, and a tremor of this size is felt locally but rarely causes serious harm.

The value of the fast AFAD notice is simple: people near the epicentre learn within minutes whether to expect aftershocks or just a scare.
