Kazakhstan's security service says it detained 10 people in the western city of Atyrau over an alleged plot to change the country's constitutional order by force.

The National Security Committee (KNB) said the arrests took place on October 30 and were announced on November 2. The suspects are accused of forming and running an extremist group, promoting terrorism and inciting religious discord. Searches seized firearms, drugs and literature, and the KNB says it shut three underground teaching centres for children and teenagers run by the group.

The KNB has not named the suspects or the group, and no court has tested the allegations. Note the wording: the KNB itself did not use the word coup, though some outlets did.
