Kazakhstan's Caspian transit is choking on shallow water.
The Caspian Sea is getting shallower, so ships cannot take full loads, and containers are piling up on Kazakhstan's coast waiting for shipment to Azerbaijan, according to The Times of Central Asia, cited by ZTB. Ports need dredging work to keep the route moving. The bottleneck hits at the worst moment: Kazakhstan wants to be Eurasia's transport hub and the Middle Corridor's eastern anchor, but its sea leg is literally drying up beneath it.
