BREAKING: Seventeen people from Kazakhstan, including 11 children, are in hospital in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, after a mass food poisoning at a youth football tournament.
Four of the children are in intensive care, according to Kazakhstan's foreign ministry, which says it has taken the case under control. The children, aged 8 and 9, fell ill on Saturday after breakfast at their hotel, with high fever, nausea, vomiting and severe diarrhoea, parents told local media.
The tournament has been suspended. Parents say test results are still not ready and promised flights home to Astana have not materialised, leaving a train journey of about a day as the alternative. Uzbekistan's authorities have not yet commented publicly, and the cause is still unconfirmed.
