Kazakhstan is moving on several fronts to cut medicine costs and fix supply, after prime minister Bektenov ordered a crackdown on price abuses.

Prices have been cut on 660 medicines in pharmacies, more than 3,000 medicines used in state-guaranteed care are tax-exempt, and a new procurement model launches in December 2026, with a single product database and reference pricing.

Health minister Akmaral Alnazarova said high-quality Turkish medicines should enter the Kazakh market without obstacles to widen choice and competition, while the health ministry will fully digitise tracking of free medicines from purchase to the patient.
