Kazakhstan's security service has broken up an international drug channel on the Caspian Sea, seizing 109 kilograms of narcotics.

Border guards and the KNB's Mangistau department detained five people on November 1 as they tried to flee pursuit: three foreigners and two Kazakh citizens. Officers seized 22 kilograms of opium, 27 kilograms of hashish and 60 kilograms of marijuana, plus a speedboat.

A pre-trial investigation is under way. The bust follows a month in which Azerbaijan also seized hundreds of kilograms at its borders, showing the same smuggling routes at work.
