People in Uzbekistan sold 18.9 billion dollars in foreign currency to banks in the first nine months of 2026, up 23.5 percent from a year earlier, while buying 11 billion dollars.

That leaves a net surplus of 7.9 billion dollars in households' favour, a sign that foreign currency is flowing into the country faster than it flows out, through remittances, tourism and trade.

The central bank separately reports that foreign currency supply is outpacing demand and the deficit is narrowing, which steadies the soum and gives the authorities room to manoeuvre.
