Twelve people from two families in Uzbekistan's Fergana region have died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a single week, and officials are warning against a specific boiler.
Seven members of one family died in Chimyon village on October 25, and five members of another family, including girls aged 7, 3 and 1, died in Kokand on November 1.
Emergency officials say both homes used German Vaillant two-circuit boilers that were decommissioned in Germany, smuggled into Uzbekistan as parts, repaired by hand and sold as new. They are urging anyone with such a boiler to stop using it immediately.
