UPDATE: Prosecutors in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, have opened a criminal case over the mass food poisoning of young Kazakh footballers at the Dostlik Cup tournament.

Twenty people sought medical help, and 18 remain in hospital, including 11 children, according to local reports. Two patients have been discharged. The children, aged 8 and 9, fell ill after breakfast at their team hotel.

Investigators suspect undercooked eggs and sausages served at the hotel breakfast, and food samples have gone for laboratory testing. The Chilanzar district prosecutor is investigating violations of sanitary rules.

Kazakhstan's foreign ministry says it is monitoring the case, and the tournament has been suspended.
