NEW: Uzbekistan will track where long-term foreign residents live and work through a new digital platform, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at a November 2 meeting on labour migration.
The platform will monitor the residence and employment of foreign nationals staying in Uzbekistan long-term, according to Kun.uz. Tashkent is tightening its grip on migration paperwork as its economy pulls in more foreign workers, students and businesspeople.
For the migrants themselves, the change cuts both ways: clearer records can mean faster permits, but also faster detection when papers lapse.
