NEW: Kazakhstan has signed new uranium supply contracts with India and China, Kazatomprom chief Meirzhan Yusupov told President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Tokayev also heard that work is under way on a state strategic uranium reserve, and that Kazatomprom is exploring six sites covering more than 1,000 square kilometres, with a new Kyzyltu prospect of 124 square kilometres to follow.
Kazakhstan is already the world's largest uranium producer, and new contracts with the two biggest Asian buyers lock in demand for years. In a world racing to build nuclear plants, the country that holds the fuel holds leverage.
