Do not stockpile for November 17. A viral post claiming the internet will be switched off for three months, bank accounts wiped to zero and a so-called COVID 2.0 unleashed is a scare story doing the rounds in Uzbekistan's social media, flagged by regional outlets as a rumour with no source.
The claim traces back to a social media post citing an unnamed darknet source, urging people to hoard food, water, cash and gold. No government, bank or telecom operator in any country has announced anything of the kind.
Hoaxes like this spread because they mix a real anxiety, that the internet and banks can fail, with a fake date. November 17 will be an ordinary day unless something real happens, and this post is not evidence of it.
