NEW: Uzbekistan absorbed 44.3 billion dollars of foreign investment and loans in the first nine months of the year, investment minister Laziz Kudratov told parliament.
The figure was given in answer to a parliamentary inquiry on monitoring investment projects in the regions, assessing their effectiveness and improving work with investors, according to UzA.
Absorbing money is one thing, turning it into finished factories and jobs is another, and parliament's questions were aimed exactly at that gap: which projects are actually delivering, and which are only announced.
