A teenage foreign citizen has been sentenced to 10 years in Kazakhstan after trying to smuggle more than a kilogram of opium inside his stomach, prosecutors in the Mangystau region said.
The young man arrived on a Gorgan to Aktau flight in May carrying 113 capsules of opium, found by Kazakhstan's National Security Committee officers.
Why it matters: body-packing cases are rare and dangerous, and a 10-year term for a minor shows how seriously Kazakhstan treats transit smuggling on its Caspian routes.
