Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has launched 145 projects in the Bukhara region worth almost 8 billion dollars, and started construction on 90 more.
The projects span petrochemicals, textiles, energy, agriculture, housing, tourism and services, and Mirziyoyev also reviewed preparations for major international events in Bukhara, insisting the work cover transport, services, security and city infrastructure, not just venues.
Why it matters: Bukhara is being built out as a showcase region, and the scale of this single launch rivals a year's investment programme for many countries.
