Azerbaijan's State Security Service has brought Murad Fetiyev, wanted internationally since 2025, back to Azerbaijan and put him on trial, accused of organising separatist activity.
Prosecutors say Fetiyev, acting on instructions from radical centres run from abroad, created social media groups to recruit members of a small ethnic group in Azerbaijan and abroad, aiming to break up the country's territorial integrity and stir national hatred, and to gather information on strategic sites and organise calls to terrorism.
Why it matters: the case is Baku's public answer to separatist organising online, and the trial will test how much of the network investigators can actually prove in court.
