US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapur has arrived in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, the US Embassy said, following Secretary of State Marco Rubio's Central Asia trip.
The visit focuses on expanding business ties, energy cooperation and regional connectivity.
Why it matters: Washington is working the region capital by capital after Rubio's tour, and energy-rich Turkmenistan, long the hardest to reach, is now firmly on the itinerary.
