NEW: Armenia has confirmed it is ready to withdraw its lawsuits against Azerbaijan from international courts, once a final peace treaty is signed.
Lilit Makunts, chief of staff to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, told parliament in Yerevan on Tuesday that the withdrawal would follow 'the logic of the peace process' and only after both countries definitively sign the treaty.
The clause is already in the text the two sides initialled in Washington: within one month of the treaty entering force, both must withdraw, dismiss or settle all interstate claims from before the signing. That covers cases at the International Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights, some dating back to the 2020 war.
For Azerbaijan, this has been a core demand. For Armenia, Makunts stressed Yerevan would never give up defending its interests in general, only settle these mutual claims as part of peace. If the treaty is signed, the legal war ends with the shooting war.
