A research project on the memory of Western Azerbaijan has published its latest piece, on the village of Saral.
The project documents Azerbaijani villages in what is now Armenia, and says Saral's Azerbaijani heritage was erased in August 1991 as part of a policy of Armenisation. The material draws on the memories of people who once lived there.
For Azerbaijan, these village histories are part of a larger story of displacement that still shapes how the country talks about its western neighbours.
