Azerbaijan's parliament has ratified the Eternal Friendship Agreement with Uzbekistan, signed by Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on August 23.
The 11-article treaty commits both countries to support each other's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and not to join alliances that would harm the other side. It also widens cooperation in trade, investment, transport, logistics, education, science, culture and tourism.
Why it matters: this is the legal backbone of the closest bilateral relationship in the Turkic world. It turns the Aliyev-Mirziyoyev partnership from summit language into a binding framework, and it signals to the region that Baku and Tashkent intend to move together, on corridors, energy and diplomacy alike.
