Bank card circulation passed 68.2 million at the start of 2026, and card payments at shops reached 460 trillion soums, about 38.3 billion dollars, in 2025, up around 41 percent on the year. Local players including TBC Bank Uzbekistan and Click are integrating the new services.
Why it matters: for ordinary Uzbeks this means tapping a phone instead of carrying cash, and for small businesses it means cheaper, faster payments. It also pulls Uzbekistan's payment system closer to international standards, which matters for tourists and for the millions of Uzbeks who receive money from abroad.
