The Kyrgyz film Aitmatov is heading to cinemas across Europe in November and December 2026.
Screenings are planned in Warsaw, Vienna, Budapest, Stuttgart, Prague, London, Rome, Milan, Rostock, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne and Vilnius.
Why it matters: Chingiz Aitmatov is Kyrgyzstan's most translated writer, and a film about him touring fifteen European cities is cultural diplomacy that actually reaches audiences. For a small film industry, a tour like this is the distribution system it does not have at home.
