Construction of the new Jalal-Abad international airport in southern Kyrgyzstan is under way, with video of the site now circulating.
Work began in May 2025 on 381 hectares in the Suzak district. The project includes a 3,800 metre runway and a modern three-storey terminal designed to handle up to 350 passengers an hour, making it one of the south's major aviation facilities.
Why it matters: southern Kyrgyzstan has long depended on Bishkek and Osh for air links. A real international airport at Jalal-Abad shortens the journey for a whole region, and gives its farms, traders and tourists a direct route out.
