Residents of Tashkent, Uzbekistan say brown, oily water with an unpleasant smell has been coming from their hot taps instead of clean water.
Complaints from the Yalangach, Karasu and Firuza neighbourhoods describe water so murky people are afraid to touch it, let alone wash in it. One resident's video shows the brown stream filling a pot, and locals joke that the taps are serving cocoa.
The joke lands because the bills, residents say, will still arrive as usual.
Why it matters: Tashkent's heating season has barely begun and trust in basic services is already on trial. A viral clip of brown tap water does more damage to a city's reputation than any statistic, and fixing it visibly matters more than explaining it.
